The Willingdon Community school Under 16 Boys table tennis team advanced to the ESTTA Butterfly National Regional Championships.

The boys had previously won the East Sussex finals and travelled to the Zone finals to play four matches, against other county school winners.

They first met Priory School from Hampshire and won 6-2. The second match was tougher with Bushey Academy drawing 4-4.

The boys had done enough to go through as winners of their group and met Simon Langton school of Canterbury Kent.

Again this was a 4-4 draw, with Jack and Josh Bennett winning both their matches. However it was the vitally important sets that were won by Daniel Reigler and Sam Marchant, that saw them go through to the final.

In the zone final they met Priory School again and were able to win 6-2.

The Butterfly national championships regional finals in Bournemouth are on Saturday February 25.

They will face London Academy, Dr Challoners Grammar School from Bucks and Penryn College from Cornwall.

The winner of this will go to the National finals.
