Eastbourne Ladies lost 1-0 to high-flying London Wayfarers on Saturday as their troubled season continued in South Division 3b, writes Tyrone McGarthland.
Eastbourne were on the front foot and could of been ahead on three occassions; Sally Clarke, Jen Atkins and Emily Read all going close early on.
Eastbourne goalkeeper Lizzy Woolly made two fantastic saves to keep the scoreline goaless but as half-time approached it was the Wayfarers who got their noses in front. Eastbourne failed to clear the ball from their own D resulting in a soft goal.
Eastbourne had their chances to equalise in the second half. Sharon Clay was closed down quickly by the Wayfarers’ defence from a short corner.
Eastbourne also defended resolutely, Hannah Marsden, Claire Bracuti, Tara Granea and Rosie Sharp put in good performances, but the result leaves Eastbourne with just two wins from 13 outings.
Tomorrow, Eastbourne travel to league leaders Surbiton on Saturday who are currently unbeaten all season.
Eastbourne Seconds drew 2-2 with Hailsham Men’s 1 in Sussex Division 1.
Eastbourne led through a penalty corner, but Lee Humber slotted home a first half equaliser. The visitors hit back with a goal just before half-time.
Hailsham rallied in the second half as Tristan Pengilley slotted home a rebound from Mark Lambert’s penalty corner strike to close the game at 2-2.
