British No. 3 Heather Watson reached the second round of the AEGON International this afternoon to join fellow young Brit Laura Robson.
Watson, from Guernsey, beat Hungary’s qualifier Greta Arn 6-3 6-4. The Brit who received a wildcard to the tournament, will be lifted knowing the top three seeds have all been knocked out at Devonshire Park.
She was pleased with her performance and admitted to putting extra pressure on herself after seeing this morning’s results. She said, “I was pretty much nervous throughout the whole match. I didn’t really loosen up but I got through it quite well.”
On her doubles partnership with Laura Robson which will feature at London 2012, she said, “We are a very good doubles team. We compliment each other’s game and we get along really well. I’d love to carry on playing with Laura and have a good doubles career with her.”
