St Andrew’s Prep under-12 rugby team produced an excellent performance to claim a Sussex School’s Cup final victory.

The game was described by RFU representative as the best game of under-12 he had witnessed as St Andrew’s powered to a 14-0 victory against Brighton College.

St Andrew’s dominated the first half with Louis Heywood linking the backs and forwards with some excellent passing.

The pressure was converted into points with excellent tries from Joe McIntyre and Max Casebourne.

Brighton came back strongly in the second half and forced St Andrew’s to defend their line for a 10 minute period.

Ferocious tackling and superb defence from the backs, along with great support from the forwards superbly led by Alfie Pagram managed to contain the Brighton team in the middle of the pitch until the final whistle.

Chris Pinch, St Andrew’s U12 coach and director of sport said of the team’s journey through the competition, ‘They are not the most powerful, not the quickest, but they have the biggest hearts.”

Daniel Poole broke his arm prior to the final and missed out on the big day.
