Trophy blow for Eastbourne bowlers

Eastbourne’s Indoor Bowlers failed to progress in their respective National Inter Club Championships

The Ladies, playing against Adur in the Yetton Trophy, were up against a very strong team.

Playing at Adur Pauline Nash, Paddy Kervin, Gillie Hill and Anne Summers did well for ten ends to only be 7-9 down but lost 14-26 to Linda Gray.

Also away, Pat White, Pauline Davies, Ursula Fenner and Phyllis Stevens, who played Lorraine Khuler and were outclassed to lose 33-10.

At home Sue Taylor, Beth Clarke Rene Baker, and Sheila Simmons played W Willard. During the game, Rene was taken ill and Judy White replaced her early in the game. All fought well but lost 19-26.

Maureen Stanbridge, Marge Campbell, June Liggins and Pat Bain had a terrific game against Sandra Godfrey, earning a creditable draw 17 all to settle the final score at 60- 102

The Men’s team played Bournemouth IBC in the fourth round of the Denny Cup, Dave Bain, Jamie White, Mick Martin and Ian Coombes lost 35-11. James Henty, Bill Fuller, Ray Novis and Stephen Bain fought to the end, narrowly losing 19-20.

The home teams of Tony Redshaw, Peter Reynolds, Terry Howard and Derek Dyer kept the game tight but lost 18-26. Malcolm Lindsey, David Booth, Peter Morgan, and Mike Taylor staged a super fight back after trailing 13-0, only lose 17-15.
