Tremendous racing brings 22 medals for swim stars

Last Sunday swimmers from Hailsham Swimming Club excelled at the Littlehampton

open meet.

This level three licensed event was hosted at the Arun Leisure Centre, in Felpham. For those that travelled the distance, it proved to be a tremendous day of racing, with a combined total of 22 medals being won.

Nine year old Milly Widdop continued to build on her recent County Championship

success, by winning four gold medals and comfortably achieving 2014 County qualifying times in all races. Sasha Goldsmith swam superbly in the 200m Freestyle, improving by seven seconds.

Sasha also attained a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke. For 10-year old Macy Ring, this was her first individual gala. She kept her composure well, to be placed fourth in the 100m Breaststroke and gained the

100m Backstroke bronze.

Determined swims from Georgia Hobden enabled her to accomplish good personal best times in each of the three races entered.

10- year-old Rose Stride swam successfully throughout the day, as did Maddison Drury aged 13, both girls won two silvers and a gold in their respective events.

Molly Paulin put in some brilliant performances. She came came fourth in 50m and 100m Freestyle, second in 100m Breaststroke and winning the 50m Breaststroke race.

Leading the way for the male swimmers was Craig Steenhoff, winning all but one of the races entered. Craig came away with six first places and one third place.

Joe Golding aged 12 powered his way to win gold in the 200m Breaststroke, smashing his best time by an impressive 15 seconds.

He also came fourth in 200m Freestyle and gained the county level qualification time for this event.
