Hailsham Harriers had a squad of seventeen of their runners out to maintain their position in the fifth round of the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country league races held on the Ashdown Forest organised by Crowborough Runners.
Conditions were muddy with a cold northerly wind but almost 200 runners took part over an undulation course exceeding five miles and the Hailsham Harriers were rewarded with a second place overall to the current leaders Lewes AC and from the combined Uckfield and Heathfield team in third.
The winner was Peter Woodward from the host club Crowborough Runners but the excellent Sue Fry was the first Harrier home with a brilliant run to take the ladies win with 16th overall and Paul Eccles 23rd ,Alan Thornton 25th and Tom Clewley 31st leading the mens team.

All eyes will be on the final round to be held at Blackstock Farm Hellingly on Sunday, March 8. The Harriers will look to follow up their impressive performance at the Ashdown Forest and maintain their position in second overall.
Meanwhile the first of the Road Race season has arrived with the Chichester Priory 10k race which took place last Sunday, February 7.
