Sands breaks try record as Hellingly end in style

Hellingly 93, Cinque Ports 5

Hellingly ran in 15 tries in this one-sided affair to finish the season on a high.

This was the third meeting between these clubs this season and, with this possibly being the last game in charge for captain and club stalwart Mark Harris, the team were determined to put on a great performance.

From the kick off Hellingly earned the right to go wide by driving through the pack and then letting the backs dazzle with a stunning display of power, speed and guile.

David Sands also broke the try scoring record when he achieved his 26th try of the season and scored four on the day.

Fittingly, there were two tries for Harris. Ben Trevarrow went over twice, James Grey, Paul Smith, Charlie Milner, Tom Manktelow, Ian Padget and Aaron McCullock all added to the scores.

It’s been a fantastic year for Hellingly that has seen them clinch the league and cup double. They amassed a points tally of 1,021 in 21 games and conceded just 84.

Coach Nigel Gossedge said, “Today was about the boys celebrating their success on the pitch by putting on a day of champagne rugby for their supporters. For the players after the celebrations it will be back to training because next year will be a greater challenge and we have to be prepared.
