Eastbourne Royal Golf Club advanced to the third round of the Nationaol Sunday Mail Knock-Out competition by virtue of an exciting win away against Mid Sussex.
Hamish Houston lead off and got a half while Jacob Holden went down narrowly, 2&1. John Chamberlen got home by the same margin, which meant when
Nick Ward also halved, the teams were all square.
It was left to anchor man Richard Hine’s 2&1 win t0 seal it for the Royal.
Richard Ager and Andrew Pluck scored 65.5 net to take the Wright Cups.
This is one of the club’s oldest competitions, the format being foursomes medal. The father and son duo of Martin and Alex Hughes had 67.00 - a mere 0.5 better than Graham Ramalli and Rick Alden.
In the Winter League, the overall winners were Wes Game Nigel - 176points, while Dave and Steve Simmons were second with173172. The Ladies Section of REGC held a recent team competition. In good golfing conditions, teams of three battled it out with Sarah Ager, Zoë Gurr and Judy Ayling winning with a very commendable 87 points, followed by Nancy Chung, Winnie Perry and Bridget Lowrie in second place with 85 points. Maggie Clark with 84 points.
