Eagles lingering hopes of Elite League play-off progression slipped still further from their grasp at Poole’s Wimborne Road stadium on Wednesday evening.
They were comprehensively beaten by a 56-35 margin by a patchwork, but ultimately in-form Pirates septet, one who themselves are still bidding to claim the tables top spot, writes Kevin Ling.
That scenario was realised at the conclusion of the 15 heats as the Dorset side jumped above the King’s Lynn Stars into first place by virtue of points difference.
The two teams each have 62 match points, Poole having contested 30 matches, one more than the Norfolk outfit.
While each are certain to be in the final showdown, Eastbourne will have to move mountains in their final four away matches, two at Coventry, two at Belle Vue on Friday and this coming Monday respectively if they are yet to join them.
