Polegate & Stone Cross U10 enjoyed a fine victory against Chiddingly U10 on a damp low wicket.
Chiddingly batted first and the introduction of leg spinner Freddie Bobbin enabled Polegate to gain the upper hand. His two overs went for four runs as he took three wickets. He was well supported by Jack Corbett (2 overs for 4 runs) and Ryan Hover (2 overs for 5 runs and 1 wicket). Antony Bundy also bowled excellently (2 overs for 5 runs).
Three runouts after fantastic work by Charlie Travers and Ryan Hover meant that Chiddingly’s George Pool top-scored with 26 runs. Polegate were set a target of 237. They started slowly until a nice boundary off his legs by Alex Haffenden. Ben Berry then continued the good work with a classy cameo innings of 12 not out including two fours.
Final batsman Sam Williams batted with great maturity to ensure no further wickets were lost, with Polegate & Stone Cross finishing with a total of 249.
