Polegate Grasshoppers Under-16s returned to the top of the table after a hard-fought point with Seaford Town Under-16s at the weekend.
Strong wind and rain threatened to abandon the youth clash, but both sides prevailed to earn a point apiece.
With their squad still decimated by injury and illness, Polegate struggled to get going and soon went behind.
However, they responded well and, thanks to goals from Matt Bosly and Caylan Parfitt, went into the break with a slim one-goal advantage and looking reasonably comfortable.
Seaford came out in the second half all guns blazing and scored three times to leave Polegate reeling.
However, just as they had done in the first half, the ‘Hoppers rallied again and John Reeves scored from a free kick to get them back into the game.
As Polegate pushed for an equaliser, Seaford looked threatening on the break.
The Grasshoppers rode their luck and managed to hold firm though and got the equaliser their efforts deserved as Matt Bosly headed home late on to make the final score 4-4.
The point takes the Polegate Grasshoppers back to the top of the league, albeit in on goal difference.
And, with no more games to play before the end of the month, that’s where the Grasshoppers shall remain heading into the New Year.
