Plenty of medals for high-flying Hornets

On Saturday, July 6, a small group of Hailsham ‘Hornet’s swimmers excelled at the Terry Fitzgerald Memorial Open Meet in Hastings.

George Gadsden started the day in good form by achieving third place in the boys twelve years 50m and 100m Backstroke events.

Joe Golding, also 12 years old, had an outstanding day of racing, winning the 200m Backstroke in a race time of 2.54.28, which was a 14 second improvement.

He also took the top spot in the 200m Butterfly event, reducing his personal best time by a huge 15 seconds.

Joe continued his good form throughout the day, gaining fourth place in the 100m Breaststroke, fifth place in the 200m Individual Medley and sixth place in the 100m Backstroke event.

Craig Steenhoff also put in some superb performes in the over 15 years age group, winning each of the three events he entered.

Craig came away with the gold in 200m, 100m and 50m Breaststroke events.

Macy Ring clocked a brilliant time in the girls 10 years 200m Backstroke, making an improvement of 16 seconds.

Macy also swam well in the 100m Backstroke to take the bronze medal and later finished fourth in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke, and seventh in the 100m Braststroke races.

All of the swimmers should be proud of their performances.
