Pat through to final stages of nationals

Eastbourne’s indoor bowlers have made good progress into the final stages of the national championships.

Pat Bain reached the area final of the ladies’ singles when she defeated Sheila Mitchell of Denton Island.

In a very close game Pat was behind 7-8 after ten ends but then slowly pulled away to lead 17-13 after 15 ends going on to win 21-17.

In the over-60’s singles, Derek Dyer played Stuart Holland (Snr) for a place in the area semi-final. Down 3-7 after five ends, he rallied to lead 15-8 after ten ends.

After 15 ends Derek held a slender lead 17-15 finishing in fine style to win 21-16.

Carol Fuller, Pat Bain, Bill Fuller and Stephen Bain pulled off a spectacular win when they defeated a very strong mixed fours team from Adur IBC of John Frith, Lorraine Kuhlar, Bazil Holding and Dave Hubbard.

Playing very well they led 13-8 after ten ends and 18-12 after 15.

With a seven shot advantage with two ends to go, they dropped 2,4 to get a fine 23-22 victory to take their place in the area final.

In the over-60’s fours, Ray Novis Roger Cable Bill Fuller and Ian Coombes reached the Area Final when they played K Tabers team from Grattons IBC.

Always in complete control of the game, they led 16-5 after ten ends and the visitors conceded the game after 16 ends when trailing 24-7.

In the ladies’ county pairs, Pat White and Phyllis Stevens played well to lead 15-3 after ten ends against L Milburne and M Clarkson of Falaise, going on to win 23-5 when the Falaise ladies conceded the game

In an exiting local derby in the Sussex County League, Eastbourne played Langney Sports.

With both teams fighting tooth and nail to win the valuable points, it was Eastbourne who triumphed winning nine and a half points to one and a half for a 137-90 final scoreline.
