Eastbourne’s Oli Thompson will make his second UFC Heavyweight appearance when he takes on fellow British fighter Phil de Fries in Los Angeles this weekend.
Thompson, a former British strongest man title holder, signed for the UFC in 2011 and was due to fight de Fries at UFC 138 in Birmingham but was forced to withdraw through injury.
The Eastbourne fighter made his UFC debut in Sydney in March but lost an action-packed bout to hard hitting American Shawn Jordan. Thompson is however highly-rated on the MMA scene and has already the held the ZT Heavyweight MMA and UCMMA Heavyweight titles after retiring from strongman competitions in 2009.
Thompson said, ““I think that de Fries is a great match for me. I’ve come out to California early to ensure I’m fully prepared and I’m definitely ready for an explosive fight.”
The fight will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be made up of seven prelims and four fights on the main card.
The fight will be screened on Fox 4 on ESPN at 1am on Sunday, August 5.
