Hailsham Ladies demolished rivals Honeybees by nine goals to one on Saturday to keep themselves at the top of the Sussex Ladies League Division One.

Sue Cable twice found the back board in the opening 15 minutes to give Hailsham the lead before Honeybees netted a solitary effort in reply.

From there, Hailsham really kicked on with Cable netting three more goals alongside strikes from Emma Allen, Toni Bray, Katie James and Susie Smith to complete the rout.

Hailsham Ladies IIs slotted four unanswered goals past Crawley Ladies IIs to keep them in the Sussex Ladies League Division Three title chase.

The victory, courtesy of a brace from Toni Wheatley and goals by Rachel Hall and Lou Forwood, keeps them six points adrift of leaders Burgess Hill Ladies III, who they play next week.

The Men’s first team slipped to a narrow defeat to Crowborough Is, despite coming back from two goals down.

After regrouping at half time, strikes from Tristan Pengilly and George Cyster had levelled for Hailsham but a Crowborough winner five minutes from time condemned Hailsham to second from bottom of Sussex Open Division One.

Hailsham Men’s II fought off a Brighton XIs revival to secure a 5-2 victory on Saturday thanks to a hat-trick from Ian Johnson plus goals by Richard Whitling and Steve James.
