Tolly Plested, an Icon Brazilian Jiu-jitsu blackbelt, battled his way to first prize at the English Open Nogi Championships held in Dartford last Sunday.
The title completes a superb hat-trick for the 34-year-old, who now holds the English, British and European Nogi Bjj championships.
After a nail-biting fight, Tolly, who is the head instructor of First Generation Mixed Martial Arts, edged in front of his opponent in the last minute of the bout as he scored with a takedown and won the fight on points.
His victory was against a very tough and seasoned competitor who is another blackbelt and fights for the famed Carlson Gracie team.
The impressive victory saw Tolly crowned as the English 2016 blackbelt middle heavy master champion.
He said, “It was an extremely hard fight and afterwards, every muscle in my body was aching. One minute I was ahead then he was in front, it could have gone either way. But I kept on believing in myself and I stayed positive and stayed strong and got the takedown.
“To have all three titles is fantastic and hopefully it can help inspire some of the young students.”
