England and Saracens hooker Jamie George described Eastbourne Rugby Club as a ‘fantastic club’ during a message on Facebook earlier this week.
Jamie’s brother, Gareth George, enjoyed a season at Park Avenue last year and the England man has now urged more players to join the club.
“It’s a fantastic rugby club,” said George, who was a key man on the Lions’ tour of New Zealand over the summer.
“I know first hand that my brother went down there and had a fantastic experience.
“Whether you are 16, 36 or 56, I encourage you to get down there. It’s welcoming to players to all ability with a great atmosphere in and around the club. If you fancy it on a Tuesday or a Thursday and potentially a game on a Saturday, get down to Eastbourne Rugby Club.”
With George’s glowing endorsement fresh in their ears, Eastbourne produced a fine display at Ditchling last Saturday as they recorded a 54-5 victory.
They will hope to reproduce that performance as they welcome third placed Burgess Hill to Park Avenue tomorrow (Saturday, 2.30pm). Head coach Adrian Norwood added, “The lads fully deserved the win at Dichling. We put the work in during training and it’s nice to see that rewarded with a convincing victory. The younger players are starting to show more confidence and that’s great to see.
“Our aim is to get the best out of all the players and also encourage a few more through the door. It’s great to hear a player of Jamie’s level speak so well about us. We are seeking more players to improve the club, the Nomads and the first team.”
