Kym’s Green Machine revels in the wet

KYM WEAVER achieved a remarkable fourth place finish in the 2012 National Hot Rod World Final in Ipswich.

Despite it being his first full season, local hot rod star Weaver gained the podium finish in front of a packed and wet 10,000 strong crowd.

Weaver started the race in 7th row grid after a disappointing qualifying lap of 14:65, which was much slower than his practice time of 14:31.

Despite heavy rain soaking the track, Weaver and his team were confident he would do well.

At the start of the 75th lap, Kym settled in behind the leading cars and slowly picked his way through the field from 13th to eighth place before the yellow flags came out for a crash.

From the restart, Kym again passed his way up to fourth just behind the top three, only then to get held up by a back marker for 20 laps, which became very frustrating.

Finally Weaver did get past and was closing in on the third-placed car but laps were running out and he finished a few car lengths away in a well earned fourth place, much to the delight of the 209 team.

Weaver started even further back in the world final revenge race reverse grid, but still managed to achieve an excellent fourth place finish and, in the Best of Britain race, had to settle for fifth place.

It was an excellent weekend of racing for the Green Machine and the 209 team that will be shown on an hour long programme on Sky Sports 4 on August,1 or August 4 at 7pm.

Kym would like to thank local sponsors Eastbourne Property Shop, Hailsham Scaffolding, Ricky Walsh car graphics and, from Ireland, Trevor Hill race engines.
