Konta set to represent Eastbourne at Wimbledon

Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta has been given a wildcard into this year’s Wimbledon Championships.

The 21-year-old, who is also expected to be entered as a wildcard into the AEGON International tournament next week, will be representing Great Britain at SW19 after being granted British Citizenship last month.

Originally from Australia, Konta resides in Eastbourne and will now compete on the ITF and WTA circuits as the British senior women’s number six.

Ranked at number 208 in the world, Konta will be hoping to head to Wimbledon on the back of success at Devonshire Park, providing she is handed one of the wildcards available for the women’s singles competition.

Konta, who already has one ITF title to her name this year, is joined on the Wimbledon wildcard list by fellow Brits Laura Robson, Heather Watson and Naomi Broady.

In the men’s draw, British hopefuls Jamie Baker, Oliver Golding, Joshua Goodall and James Ward have all also been granted wildcards.
