A 17-year-old kickboxer from Eastbourne was celebrating this week after becoming the IKF Open English Kickboxing Champion for 2015.

Last Sunday (January 18), Chanice Sumner travelled to Lordswood Leisure Centre, in Kent, to compete in the junior section of the Championships at under 55kg level.

Chanice won three fights at the tournament to take the trophy and extend her light contact continuous fight record to 11 wins and just two losses. She is now in training to compete in full contact.

The tournament was hosted by Colin Payne and attracted kickboxers from all across the country, at both junior and senior level. There were six competitors in the same 50-55kg group as Chanice, with two coming from the TKO Elite Gym in Kent and one attending from Star Kickboxing Gym.

Chanice trains with Complete Martial Arts Schools gym in Eastbourne, which holds its classes at All Souls Church on Susans Road. She is trained by Chief Instructor Sensei Sean Kinsella, who is a 5th Dan Blackbelt with 26 years of training and 16 years of teaching experience.

Sensei Sean Kinsella said, “Chanice has been training with us for two years and is now a green belt The whole club is very proud of her English title.”

CMA offers classes throughout East Sussex, teaching hundreds of students per week. It teaches kids kickboxing (7-12 years), youth/adult kickboxing (13 years+), Wado Ryu karate (4-11 years) and youth/adult karate.
