Eastbourne College pupil Josh Pankhurst has been making waves in the pool recently.
Having achieved his 200m backstroke national qualifying time in Crawley earlier this month, Josh went on to break the Sussex County Junior record for 50m backstroke three times.
Josh, who trains with Bodyworks XTC and is affiliated to the East Grinstead Swimming Club, beat current holder Adam Harrington’s record for the 50m backstroke in Crawley on April 16 when he shaved 0.05 seconds off the record to finish in 29.39.
Nineteen-year-old Adam Harrington’s swimming career has gone from strength to strength and he will now be representing Britain in the 2012 swimming squad.
Josh’s performance in the pool meanwhile just keeps getting better and better.
In Portsmouth on April 24 he broke his own Sussex 50m record in the heats, finishing in 29.29 seconds before breaking it again for the third time when he finished in 28.53 seconds.
It was a fantastic achievement and one which certainly bodes well for the future of Sussex swimming.
