Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta is the new British No.1 in women’s tennis following her 6-4, 7-5 victory against Andrea Petkovic at the Wuhan Open in China.
Konta’s victory, coupled with Heather Watson’s first round exit, saw the 24-year-old over-take Watson for the top spot.
Konta will face Belarusian Victoria Azarenka following her second win of the season over Petkovic who is the world No. 17 and the 2014 French Open semi-finalist.
World No. 63 Konta has now won 19 of her last 20 matches since losing to Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.
