Eastbourne Hockey manager David Adelston admitted his men lacked belief in their ‘disappointing’ 6-2 defeat to Oxford University last weekend.
After a week out, Eastbourne made the long journey to Oxford only to leave empty-handed, despite holding the league leaders 1-1 at half time.
Adelston said, “To be level at half time was encouraging but I don’t think the guys really believed in themselves.
“To go such a long distance and not get a result is obviously disappointing but the guys just weren’t on good form.
“It was the hardest match we had left to play on paper.Because they are a university, they train together all the time whereas in the recent cold weather, we haven’t been able to and that showed.”
This weekend, Eastbourne return to the Saffrons to face bottom-of-the-table West Hempstead (1:30pm).
“We should win but then West Hempstead managed a 3-3 draw with Oxford University earlier this season, so they can’t be that bad.”
