HAILSHAM Harriers produced some strong performances at the Sussex Marathon and Half Marathon.

Harriers had five of their runners competing, but only Mark Fox took on the full marathon which was over two laps of an undulating route.

Given the steep climbs over a course based in Heathfield which also took in rural country lanes and nearby villages, Fox did very well to finish in 77th place with a time of 4hrs08m23s.

In the half marathon, Dave Coulson continued his return to form after competing in the recent Eastbourne and Hastings halves. He was rewarded with 18th place in 1hr37m16s.

Next home was Annette Feakes with a good run in 39th place and sixth lady in 1h46m07s, while new member Alissa Ellis produced an amazing 1h49m29s for eighth lady and 49th overall.

Karen Breese followed her epic 63 miles only a couple of weeks beforehand with 154th place in 2h17m53s. The total entry of more than 400 runners in an event organised by TL Sports Events enjoyed perfect weather conditions.

A ladies’ masters team, meanwhile, entered the Sussex Road Relay Championships at Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham, and was rewarded with fifth place in the over-40 event with a combined race time of 48m43s.

The team consisted of Jane Barlow, who completed the first leg in 15m13s, Fran Doe, who ran the second leg in 18m40s, and Julie Chicken, who covered the final leg in 14m50s.

A number of Harriers competed in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday and several more will line-up in the Virgin London Marathon this coming Sunday.

The club will be holding its own Hailsham Milland Road Race tomorrow (Thursday), meeting at 7pm. Guests will be most welcome to participate and further details are available on the club website www.hailsham-harriers.org.uk
