Eastbourne rower Joe Guppy came back from down under with two bronze medals from the Youth Olympics Festival in Sydney, Australia this month.

Guppy, 19, achieved a bronze alongside Tim Grant, Ed Grisedale and Joel Cassells in the men’s four and won his second in the men’s eight event.

Having set a triple-gold target for himself by competing in the men’s pair alongside Joel Cassells as well, the youngster may have been disappointed with winning just two bronze medals at the five-day event.

Guppy said, “A bronze medal in an event like the Australian Youth Olympic Festival is a great result whichever way you look at it.

“These Games are definitely the highlight of my career so far because they are my first major medals for GB and hopefully there are plenty more to come.”

Team GB won 66 medals overall at the festival this year.
