Eastbourne runner Karen Breese is all set to embark on a gruelling challenge that will see her tackle four half-marathons and three marathons in nine weeks.
Karen, 39, who owns Checkers Barbers hairdressers in Seaside Road, will begin her marathon journey this Sunday when she takes part in the Brighton Half-Marathon.
“I am just trying to raise some money for the WRAS Wildlife Rescue and St Wilfrid’s Hospice and if I can do that and help to raise awareness and support for charity by running the marathons then that’s great.”
Karen, who runs for Hailsham Harriers, will then take part in the Tunbridge Wells half-marathon on February 27, before tackling the Eastbourne half-marathon on the March 6 followed by the Hastings half-marathon on March 20.
A two-week recovery break will follow before Karen attempts to complete the hardest part of her mission – three full marathons in consecutive weeks.
The Sussex marathon comes first on April 3, then the equally exhausting Brighton Marathon on April 10 before she finishes her gruelling journey at the world famous London Marathon on April 17.
Experienced runner Karen, who has completed six marathons in the past, but never more than one in a row, was especially grateful to have been entered for her first London marathon.
“I have been trying to enter the London for a number of years and to have been chosen to represent Hailsham Harriers is fantastic news. I am extremely grateful to them for their support.”
