Young Eastbourne golfing ace Joshua Hardy set an unofficial course record at the Royal Eastbourne Golf Club last Sunday with a remarkable gross score of 59.
Joshua, 15, finished on -11 from the white tees and a card was submitted and signed-off for handicap purposes but it didn’t count as a course record as it wasn’t an official competition.
The 3.9 handicapper started well with a par at the first and swiftly followed that with his first ever birdie at the third.
His putting has improved greatly recently but he didn’t need it on the fourth or fifth as he chipped in for Eagles on both.
He then birdied the sixth and shot par on the seventh (the hardest hole of the course) before shooting birdies at eight, nine, 11, 12, 14 and 17. His round could have been even better but for a bogey on the par-three 18th.
It’s been an excellent return to form for the youngster who missed the first eight weeks of the season due to glandular fever.
His previous seven rounds, played at Eastbourne Downs, saw him shoot 71, 66, 66, 70, 69, 64, and 64. A delighted Joshua said, “Even though I finished on a disappointing note, this round far exceeded my expectations. I am really excited for the season ahead.”
