Eastbourne triathlete Todd Leckie joined students at the Causeway school as they celebrated National Sports Week in style.
Causeway joined up with Hazel Court to host a World Sport Day in preparation for the fast approaching London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Students took part in a wide variety of challenges and activities that educated them about the Olympics and sport across the world and, at the end of the day, five students were selected to attend London 2012.
Todd Leckie, who’s a reserve for the GB Olympic team, congratulated and awarded Tia and Mia Roberts, Amy Cann, Chloe Smith and Liam Watt with the chance to watch the British women’s football team play Brazil at Wembley Stadium on July, 31.
The awards topped off a hugely successful day that saw students take part in a range of sporting activities including disc golf, handball, curling, bowling, taekwondo, pop lacrosse, ultimate frisbee and goal ball.
Alongside the fun activities, students learnt about the culture, the athletes and popular sports from China, Ethiopia, Mexico and Australia, as well as being taught about the Ancient compared to the Modern Olympic Games.
Leckie finished off the day by talking about his extensive training schedule and how, through dedication, he has been able to compete in all continents of the world and train full time for the past three years.
Students were able to ask the triathlete questions and he commended them on how attentive they were.
The day was a resounding success enjoyed by students and staff in equal measures. The pupils were a credit to the school and the event is hoped to be repeated in future years at The Causeway.
