Flying start for young cricketers at Bexhill

Bexhill U10 202,

Eastbourne Under-10 softball team got off to a winning start against Bexhill with some entertaining cricket played from both teams.

Eastbourne were on 212 when last pair, twin brothers James and Sebastian Bradley, smashed the ball to all parts.

This pushed the score up to 256 with Sebastian top scoring with a score of 27 off just 10 balls. In reply, Sebastian Bradley took a wicket with the first ball and Oliver Rajaratnam was the pick of the bowlers and finished with figures of 3-10.

Cameron Railton was economical with figures of 2-8 and wicket keeper Kieran McGreevy was superb behind the stumps.

Eastbourne 412,

Heathfield 253-5

Heathfiled won the toss and decided to put Eastbourne in to bat.

Opening pair Oliver Rajaratnam and eight-year-old Dominic Pedroza had a flying start with 35 runs with the loss of one wicket.

Kieran McGreevy & Jamie Edwards added a further 25.

Zak Hebron (38) and Thomas Coomber (27) blasted further runs with some big hitting and twin brothers James and Sebastian Bradley cracked 54 off their four overs and both scored 27 runs to gave Eastbourne a record-breaking 412 runs.

Eastbourne bowled consistent lines and Heathfield were unable to get near the huge total.

Polegate & SC U12 68-8, Hellingly U12 61

Polegate batted first and struggled against a decent Hellingly attack. Jason Tibble held fort for 18 not out and late hitting from Hutchinson, Avery, Kendall and a fine four from 9-year-old Max Gausden helped boost the run rate. In reply Rippengale set about the Polegate bowlers with gusto hitting a fine 28 from 24 balls before retiring.

However the home side’s will to win and a superb run out stunning from Stanley Bobbin in the deep dragged Polegate back in the game. William Lucas bowled excellently and finished with figures of (5-7).

Hellingly required eight runs from seven balls when Dunmore bowled out ninth man Roberts to see Polegate triumph by seven runs.

Hailsham U9 244

Laughton U9 300

Hailsham won the toss and decided to bat first. Cameron Puttick and Sulley Hallett opened the batting with a total of 25 runs between them.

Jess Rose and Joe Donoghue played there hearts out but scored no runs. Jake Heal and Edward Horrigan, who are two of the youngest players, scored 3 runs between them.

The batting finished with Daisy Bean and Ollie Bean, who scored 17 runs.

The early bowling gave runs away but Daisy and Ollie Bean produced three wickets between them. However, Laughton powered ahead and took the game with 300 runs. Sulley Hallett top scored with 14 and Daisy Bean got two wickets.

Polegate & SC U11 303,

Polegate’s Henry Durtnell and Jasper Curtis opened the batting and raced to 227-1. William Lucas and Stanley Bobbin moved the score to 248 including three sixes and two fours for William (26). Max Gausden and Dominic Simes were pegged back by Laughton’s Jacob Buttifant.

Tom Carpenter and Ben Witham added 21 runs and Joseph Scott-Jones and Joshua Levett took the score to 302.

Joshua Levett added 26 including three sixes to set the home side 303 to win. Henry, William, Stanley and Joseph took three wickets for only five runs in their four overs pegging the home side back to 258. with the final pair at the crease. Stanley claimed a wicket in the final to seal the victory.
