After an injury hit 2014 Eastbourne Downs golfer Maria Tulley claimed her first professional win at the Ladies Tartan Tour in Montrose earlier this week.

Tulley, 29, made the long journey to Scotland last Monday to take part in the tour with the idea of getting some much-needed match practice but she shocked the field, including herself, as she claimed top spot after an impressive final score of 71.

The field included European Tour players Beth Allen, Becky Brewerton and Annabel Dimmock.

Tulley won the PGA in Scotland women’s pro event top prize of £1,575 with birdies at the fourth and sixth, limiting her number of bogeys to two - at the first and the 15th in halves of 35-36.

Tulley’s rookie season last year was plagued by injuries and illness, she was laid low by food poisoning in Turkey, hurt her back in a LETAS tournament and then suffered a crick in her neck which ruled her out of a Morocco event.

After the tournement Tulley said, “My luck is changing at last. I have worked really hard with my coach. After last year my confidence was really low. Winning the competition reinforces the believe that I can compete at this level.”
