Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta through to quarter-finals

Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta has made it through to the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open after beating Monica Puig today (Thursday, June 11).

The British number two beat the Puerto Rican, who is ranked 58 places above her, 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-5) after two hours and 19 minutes of play.

The 24-year-old won a tie-break in the final set after play was halted in fading light on Wednesday (June 10).

Konta, ranked 147 in the world, will now face world number 61 Monica Niculescu, of Romania, in the last eight tomorrow (Friday, June 12).
