Eastbourne Masters shine at county champs

The ESC Masters team continues to go from strength to strength.

Following their recent success winning national titles in Sheffield, a 14 strong team travelled to the Pavilions Leisure Centre in Horsham on 9 December to compete in the Sussex County Masters Championships.

In the relay events, Eastbourne won seven of the 10 titles on offer, and took second place in the eighth.

Unfortunately they were unable to enter the other two events as the ages of available swimmers were not correct.

In the individual age group events, Eastbourne also dominated, taking 45 individual titles with Wendy Pritchard and Barrie Rolfe winning six each.

Pritchard also swam in almost every relay squad this took her overall gold tally into double figures.

Janet Jefferies, Dave Cummings, Mark Walsh and Greg Knapman took five titles each, with Adrian Smith, Lizzie Wright and Ian Woodward claiming four each.

Special mentions also go to Melissa Wright, Holly Manktelow and Adrian Wright.

The Eastbourne team broke 17 county records at this meet including the 50 metres breaststroke for Adrian Smith with a cracking swim of under 33 seconds.

They are now setting their sights on more success in South East Regional Masters Long Course Championships in February.
