Eastbourne Eagles have announced two new additions to their 2015 team with Kelsey Dugard and George Wood joining the ranks.
Dugard and Wood were announced by club chairman Martin Dugard as the newest recruits to the Eagles’ new look 2015 team on Sunday, January 25 at the fans’ forum at Arlington.
Kelsey, the fourth generation of the Dugard speedway dynasty, had long been expected to be part of the club’s National League team.
The 16-year-old follows in the footsteps of his great grandad Charles Dugard, grandad Bob Dugard and father Martin Dugard in turning out for the Eastbourne speedway club.
Not many British speedway clubs can boast of such a strong link from one family.
Wood, however, was a complete surprise. He has made his name in grass track racing but has not ridden speedway. As soon as conditions permit, the plan is to get George on track at Arlington.
Connor Dugard, commercial manager, has secured a “good club sponsor”. The company is yet to be named but already is suggesting marketing ideas, especially aimed at a younger audience.
Martin Dugard said the club had taken advice from people who knew the National League and they were saying Eastbourne were putting together a team that was likely to challenge for the championship.
The Eagles team currently stands at six with one more rider to be announced before the season starts. The team consists of Marc Owen, David Lee, Danny Warwick, Brendan Johnson, Kelsey Dugard and George Wood.
The Eastbourne Eagles are in a transitional stage at the moment after dropping from the Elite League down to the National League in 2014 due to financial reasons.
The team that the Eagles are bringing together is a young and exciting one with plenty of potential for the future and will only improve as the season progresses.
