The Devonshire Park Tennis Club men’s singles squad has added the team county title to its south east regional play- off crown.
The men triumphed against Pavilion and Avenue at Devonshire Park in a rain-interrupted final day of the tennis season.
Gary Lewis, manager of team tennis at Devonshire Park LTC, said, “We were delighted to win the title with a match in hand which was the icing on the cake after our south east county play-off title earlier in the summer.”
Gary added, “I think the amazing success of our Paralympians this summer has inspired us.
“They have two hurdles to climb and we only have one. They are a credit to the nation, British sport and a lesson to us all.”
The club has already strengthened its squad for 2013 when its team goals are to be national tier play-off champions and qualify for the European 35 & over Team Championships next September.
The match cancellation due to poor weather did not dampen enthusiasm for training indoors.
They put rising young star 15-year-old Lucas Percy through a trial which he passed with flying colours and he’s surely a Devonshire Park star of the future.
In addition to an intensive 20 hours per week performance programme, Percy is also cycling 60 miles per week.
Team sponsor A1 Pharmaceuticals plc (www.a1plc.co.uk ) has rewarded his commitment with free membership of the David Lloyd Sports Club.
