Dazzling darts from young stars on league finals’ night

Youth Darts League sides HPCC Greens and The Drive could not be seperated on a thrilling night of darts at Hampden Park Community Hall.

During the well-supported evening, the semi-finals and finals of the competitions were played on the stage. This was followed by hot dogs and chips, and the presentation of trophies.

The three top places in both of the Leagues were always neck and neck and only on the last match were the winners decided for this year.

The joint winners of the league were HPCC Greens and The Drive A.

The Railway Reds were third with just a two leg deficit separating them from the top two teams.

The triumphant Drive A team also won the Knockout League with the HPCC Greens this time taking the runners-up place.

Anita Coleman, chairman of the league, thanked Eastbourne ladies darts league for its generous donation to their funds and also to Planahead printers for their continued support in this very worthwhile venture.

Anita also paid tribute to all the youngsters and said that many were now very skillful players and that their enthusiasm, good behaviour and very positive attitude was so encouraging to see.

Two singles championships are contested each year with a very strong field of players.

This year in the semifinals Billy Taylor (Drive A) beat Joe Carmichael ( HPCC Eagles) and Josh Long ( HPCC Greens) beat Matthew Gray (Drive A).

Billy went on to win the League Singles final checking out in fine form with a nine dart leg to beat Josh 3-0.

It was a night of triumph for Billy Taylor. He played superb darts throughout and went on to also win the Bill Clements singles cup with Paul Weatherby (Railway Reds) a very worthy runner-up.

He was also presented with the highest finish award. Semi-finalists were Dominic Collins and Chadley Robson.

In the Planahead pairs match, worthy winners were Dominic Collins and Josh Long (HPCC Greens), who beat newcomers Shaun Reynolds and Joe Carmichael (HPCC Eagles).

The team Fours final was an all Drive team final, the winners being Billy Taylor, Mitch Gray, Matt Gray, and Brodie Bray (Drive A) beating Jacob Smallbone, Kris Sarson, P.J Lee and Samir Ahlal-long (Drive B).

Each team manager nominates a most improved player from their team and this year the awards went to Daniel King, Disney Dunbar, James Mewitt, Brodie Bray and P J Lee.

Although the league has finished until October, there will be competition nights running every first Tuesday of the month throughout the summer at the Hampden Park Community Hall.

The next competition is on Tuesday June 5 (7pm).

The league would like to encourage more youngsters aged 10 to 16 years to come along and join the league.

All novices are welcome and spare sets of darts are always available. You can pick up a registration form (£3for the year) and register for the league on the night.
