A blistering finish from Team Bodyworks XTC athlete Grace Cook saw her retain her British triathlon title at the British IRC Triathlon Championships last weekend.

The race itself, held in Hetton Lyons Country Park in Durham, came down to a two-way finish after Grace had initially surged ahead on the 300m swim, leading out of the water.

After the first lap of the 10K bike, the Eastbourne-based athlete found herself leading when her closest opponent dropped off to the chasing group.

Three members of the pack managed to close the gap and increased the pressure during the fourth lap before entering the T2 together.

It was the 1800m run that secured Grace the gold when she found herself being chased down by this year’s English schools track champion Elizabeth Hood.

Despite the high-level competition, Grace shocked the track star from the South West in the final 200 metres by pulling ahead to win by three seconds.

Also representing Team Bodyworks XTC were Alex West, who finished ninth in the youth boys alongside Harrison Rolls King who finished 29th.

Noah Canby and Ed Rosson Jones came 13th and 20th respectively in the 11-12 boys, while Rebekah Canby finished 32nd and Alicia Buck 34th in the youth girls.

Team Bodyworks XTC welcomes juniors and adults and provides a variety of sessions.
