Britain’s Jade Windley defied a 466 rank difference to beat world number 77 Stephanie Foretz Gacon in a second round qualifier comeback at Devonshire Park.
The world number 543 was one set down and trailing 4-0 in the second before an inspired fight back saw her win a tie-break and then go on to take the third set 6-1.
The 22-year-old, who lives in Brighton, seemed to be heading out of the AEGON International tournament as Frenchwomen Gacon stormed to a 4-0 second-set lead within the hour.
However, the British number 16 forced the second set into an unexpected tie-break, which she won 7-2.
Confidence on a high, Windley stormed to a 6-1 win in the third set to earn her place in the next round of qualifying, where a match with world number 105 Arn Greta awaits her.
