Eastbourne’s Callum Jackson made an assured start behind the stumps despite Sussex’s defeat to Essex in the T20 South Group at The PROBIZ County Ground on Sunday.
Jackson, 19, was very tidy with the gloves on his first team debut and took three stumpings during the Essex innings.
Sussex, we are struggling in the group south having lost seven from eight of their matches, posted a total of 146-8.
Rory Hamilton Brown top scored for the Sharks with 31 from 32 balls.
Left-arm medium-fast bowler Reece Topley did the damage for Essex as he return figures of 4-26 from his four overs.
Essex rarely looked in trouble during the run chase as openers Gregory Smith and Hamish Rutherford got the visitors off to a flyer. Smith hit 42 from 30 deliveries but it was New Zealand batsman Rutherford that stole the show with 84 from just 43 balls as Essex hit their total of 147-3 from 17.1 overs.
Jackson can take credit from his display as he stumped both Smith and Rutherford from Will Beer’s bowling. He also whipped the bails off Ravi Bopara’s stumps from Michael Yardy’s bowling.
