Eastbourne captain Mark Tomsett said his side have re-evaluated their targets for the season ahead of their Premier Division trip to Bexhill.
Staying in the league was the original goal for the campaign but a fine mid-season run has seen them comfortably to mid-table.
While he admits that the top four of Preston Nomads, East Grinstead, Roffey and Sussex Development are in a league of their own and might be slightly out of reach, they are aiming to finish top of the little cluster immediately below.
“At the moment we’re exceeding expectations,” he said.
“Finishing in the top four would be unbelievable but if we’re in a bit of a mini league with Brighton, Horsham, and Cuckfield and we’d like to finish top of that little three.
“If we can come fifth it would be a wonderful achievement.”
Eastbourne were promoted from Division One last season as champions along with Saturday’s opponents,
They have already played each other three times this season, with Eastbourne failing to win on each occasion.
Two defeats in the cup competitions were followed by a draw in the league but Tomsett is in confident mood
“They probably looked at us as someone who would struggle with the,” he added.
“As it turns out we’ve been on a good run and they are the ones struggling”
