Winger Dryer joins Town revolution

Eastbourne Town have signed long-term target and former Eastbourne United winger Joe Dryer (Writes Adam Skinner).

Manager John Lambert has been a keen admirer of the man who, for the first half of last season, was a vital part of the Peacehaven & Telscombe side that won the Ryman League South title.

He joined Simon Rowland at United half way through the last campaign and helped them to the semi-final of the FA Vase as well as the County Division Two title. Dryer has been carving out a reputation with his direct running, pin-point crossing ability and a keen eye for goal.

Town fans were given an early taste of things to come as he scored twice in his first outing with his new club, in a 6-0 pre-season win at County League two outfit Saltdean United.

Fellow new signing Kenny Pogue netted a hat-trick, while Danny Ellis finished off the rout.

This latest friendly victory was preceded by a 3-0 win at Westfield and a 4-2 triumph in Tunbridge Wells.

Town had little to shout about as they were relegated last season but their pre-season preparations would suggest they can expect better next season.

Back in the County leagues for the first time since 2006, they are being widely tipped as one of the strong favourites for promotion back to the Ryman League South at the first attempt

This latest signing is another signal of their intentions after capturing numerous players proven at this level and higher.

Dryer is joined by Matt Maclean and Sahaun Loft, both of whom were was also part of United’s cup run and title success last season.

Sean Kelly, Andy Henson and Pogue, all came in from Hastings United, while key players Adam Davidson, Ross Sutton and inspirational captain Steve Elliot have committed their future’s to the club.

Dominic Clarke, Ben Billings, Max Hollobone and Allesandro Zarrelli have also been signed over the summer.

Off the pitch, it has been confirmed that Pizza-go-go will be the kit sponsor for Eastbourne Town Reserves next season.
