Eastbourne Town Ladies will face Premier League side Queens Park Rangers in the second round of the FA Cup, after dramatically beating Chichester City on penalties.
After a thrilling match last weekend whereby Town eventually beat Chichester City on penalties , 5-4, the Saffrons side have been rewarded with a tie against the dangerous QPR in Town’s first ever second round FA Cup tie.
Chichester play their football in the South West Division One, a tier above Eastbourne Town in London and South East League.
The ladies side managed to get through to extra time despite prolonged periods of pressure from Chichester City, who had beaten Town over two weeks ago in the Sussex County FA Women’s Cup, 3-1. Town grabbed the first goal of the match in the 110th minute of extra time, but were pegged back only three minutes later.
With the game to be decided on penalties, Eastbourne scored all five of their penalties with Chichester missing their last kick to hand the Saffrons side their first ever FA Cup second round tie.
After the match Town Captain Emma Parslow said, “The feeling is unbelievable, we kind of had a feeling it was our day. Their fifth penalty came off the crossbar. The girls are thrilled. The team’s spirit and togetherness have got us through. The support from the club has also been great.”
Parslow’s team now face first tier Premier League South outfit Queens Park Rangers, who lie ninth in the league.
Parslow added, “It will be a bit of history for the club. We’re just going to go out there and enjoy it. They know nothing about us. We know what we have to play with, they don’t.” All eyes will be fixed on Sunday, January 11 when Town make history in welcoming QPR to the Saffrons in their first ever FA Cup second round tie.
