Sussex footballer Adam Hunt on his Budweiser Dream Goal of the Week
SUSSEX footballer Adam Hunt admitted it was a strange feeling to see his stunning 25-yard goal for East Preston on television at the weekend.
Hunt won the Budweiser Dream Goal of the Week for his effort in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Peacehaven & Telscombe in September.
The 28-year-old, who has also played for Wick, Worthing United, Littlehampton, Lancing, Ringmer, Hastings, Lancing United and Worthing - as a youth team player - said he got inundated with text messages after his goal was shown at half-time of Sky Sports’ live games at the weekend.
He said: “It’s all been very strange. My girlfriend and I were watching the Crystal Palace versus Manchester United game on Saturday and were just about to go out.
“Matt Axell had submitted the goal and filled in the application but the goal hadn’t been on, so I wasn’t expecting anything.
“Then it came on and my phone just went mental afterwards. Everyone was texting me to say they’d seen my goal and it’s been really good.
“Betting accounts on Twitter have been tweeting about it and it’s just had a ripple effect.”
The stunning goal very nearly did not get filmed, though. Hunt said: “Dom Di Paola, East Preston’s manager at the time, films every game but the camera broke in the first half of the game.
“When it went in, we all thought that it hadn’t been filmed but, luckily, Shaun Charles’s girlfriend got it on her mobile.
“I don’t get many with my left foot and all of the lads have given me a lot of banter for it, saying it came off my shin. However, I’ll take a shin-dog into the top corner any day.”
Dream Goal is fronted by Sky Sports’ footballers-turned-pundits Jamie Redknapp and Gary Neville, presenter and broadcaster Ed Chamberlin and commentator Martin Tyler.
The Budweiser Dream Goal competition challenges British amateur footballers to submit videos of their ‘dream goals’ in the hope of winning the ultimate prize – for their goal to feature in Budweiser’s spring TV ad campaign, supported by Sky Sports.
Budweiser says the campaign spearheads its most recent commitment to supporting grassroots British football as part of its global association with the sport.
