Stringers put seven past The Mullets

Hailsham Town 7,

Arundel 2

A hat-trick apiece for Sam Divall and Danny Leach saw Hailsham Town brush Arundel to one side in Sussex Division One at the Beaconsfield on Saturday.

But on a good weekend for the league’s lower sides, the Stringers remain in the bottom three as Ringmer, Hassocks and Lancing all won as well.

An own goal in the 36th minute set the Stringers on their way before Alex Biggs equalised for the visitors.

After going in level at the break, Divall and Leach scored within a minute of each other and Leach made it 4-1 in the 66th minute.

Leach grabbed his treble with 15 minutes left but Scott Tipper gave Arundel a glimmer of hope.

Hailsham have thrown away leads at an alarming rate in recent weeks, but Divall settled any potential nerves with three minutes left to play and he rounded off a comfortable afternoon with his hat-trick goal in the 90th minute.

It was the second time the Stringers have put seven past Arundel.

Under former manager Andy Goodchild, they won 7-0 at Arundel in the SCFA Senior Cup back in September.

Ian Stevens’ men face another tricky looking trip on Tuesday night as they go to Littlehampton Town in Sussex Division One.
