Striker Taylor signs on for rest of the season

Eastbourne Borough received a major boost last Friday as Jamie Taylor agreed to stay at the Lane for the remainder of the season.

Taylor today completes his 28-day loan from Margate, where he had been starved of first-team action, but reached an agreement to terminate his contract with the Kent club – ironically beaten by Eastbourne on Tuesday night. He has agreed non-contract terms with Tommy Widdrington to see out the rest of this season with the Sports.

And Widdrington confirmed last night that discussions are well advanced on a contract deal which will keep Jamie at the club for season 2016-17.

“I am delighted that we have secured Jamie’s services on a more permanent basis,” said the Borough boss. “He brings experience at this and higher level, and something different to the squad. Of course he is well known to all at Priory Lane, and his popularity is testament to Jamie personally and to his performances in a Borough shirt.

The news will delight Sports fans, who have always enjoyed a great relationship with Taylor. One of Priory Lane’s favourite sons, he has over 40 Borough goals to his name, but it is Jamie’s tinderbox effect on teammates that is equally valuable to Widdrington’s squad, unlocking defences and creating chances for fellow strikers Nat Pinney, Darren Lok and Elliott Romain.

After sitting out the 1-0 victory at Margate, under the terms of his loan, Taylor returned to the Borough squad for the Maidenhead defeat.
