Eastbourne United AFC Manager Paul Daubeney has bolstered his squad with the signing of the vastly experienced Danny Simmonds from Eastbourne Town.

Simmonds, (pictured) who captained Town to the Sussex County League Division One title in 2006/07, has resigned from his role as assistant manager to Danny Bloor at The Saffrons in order to resume his playing career at The Oval.

The 37-year-old midfielder joins United having started his career with Brighton & Hove Albion, before spells at Hastings United, Rye United and Eastbourne Borough.

Daubeney is happy with what Simmonds will bring to the club.

He said, “Danny is a top class player who has been around the non-league scene for a long time now and knows exactly what is needed to win.

“His experience will boost an already strong squad and offer us another option in midfield.

I know Danny had the opportunity of going to a side near the top of Division One, but I am delighted he has decided to play here at The Oval instead and I look forward to seeing Danny in competitive action for us.”
