Eastbourne Borough manager Tommy Widdrington admits he has much to ponder ahead of his team selection at Bishop's Stortford tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

Following a gruelling extra-time Sussex Senior Cup victory against Bognor Regis, Widdrington rotated his squad and left out big hitters Nat Pinney, Jamie Taylor, Jack Evans, Kiran Khinda-John and Craig Stone for the 2-0 home victory against Hayes and Yeading last Saturday.

All five returned to the starting line-up at Hemel Hempstead on Tuesday night but Borough suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.

“Nobody has a divine right to be the starting 11,” said Widdrington. “I have to pick the team that I feel gives us the best chance of winning for any given match.

“We have played a lot of football recently and sometimes you have to pull players out when you think it is right to do so. We are also looking towards next season and some of these lads are pushing for their chance.

“I spoke with the senior lads and there was no problem. Obviously they all want to play and they understand the reasons. There was no sulking and they know when called upon they have a job to do.”

With nine games of the season remaining, Borough are 11th on 42 points from their 33 matches. They are three points ahead of Bishop’s Stortford who are 13th in the table. Widdrington added, “We have a few players carrying injuries but we will go there and be competitive. We are aiming to finish the season as well as we can.”
