He revealed how encouragement from his manager during the break helped him find the spark to score the only goal of the match.

Pinney said: “The first half was a bit quiet for myself. The gaffer (Tommy Widdrington) said at half-time keep working and it will come.

“And obviously second half I got into a good area, I just done my job and finished it off.”

Pinney praised captain Ian Simpemba, goalkeeper Lewis Carey and the rest of the defence for keeping a clean sheet after he had scored.

He said: “Credit to the back-four and our goalkeeper (Lewis Carey) who have been immense all season. Simps has been immense.”

Pinney was our choice for Man of the Match but despite being the stand-out performer was not given the official award, probably due to his sending-off near the end of the match due to a second yellow card which reduced Eastbourne to ten men.

He admitted: “I probably just lost my head for the last minute or so. I’m just glad they saw it out and got the win.

“Of course we always wanted to get the second goal, it didn’t happen.

“Credit to the back-four and the whole team for staying strong.

He added he would not be partying afterwards.

Pinney said: “I’m going to chill as I’m tired. It’s been a long season so I’m going to go home, relax and enjoy the night!”
