McBride’s late header rescues point at Mile Oak

Ryan McBride headed home a 90th minute equaliser to secure a point for Eastbourne United at Mile Oak after a 2-2 draw in County League Division Two on Wednesday evening.

In windy and wet conditions United took an early lead through Jason Taylor and it stayed that way until midway through the second half when United were hit by two goals in a five minute spell from Kieran Howard and Mark O’Regan which put Oak ahead.

A handball inside the area gave Matt Maclean the chance to draw level, but he saw his penalty saved by Aaron Stenning and it needed that late strike from McBride who planted a header in the bottom corner of the net to grab the leaders a draw.

It was an importanyt result for United against a solid Mile Oak outfit and enabled them to coinsolidate their position at the top of the league before facing up to some tough cup challenges.
