Myles casts a critic's eye over the book about his great grandfather

Little Myles Tommy King performed an impromptu launch ceremony for a book about his famous great great-grandfather.

Myles, only a few months old, is the great great-grandson of Brighton and Hove Albion legend Tommy Cook

He is pictured clutching a copy of the recently released book Tommy Cook, The Double Life of A Superstar Sportsman by Phil Dennett.

Phil was unable to hold a formal launch because of the pandemic restrictions.

Myles stood in for an informal launch during a visit to Tommy’s grand-daughter Julie Hallett, of Southwick, with the baby’s parents Samantha Hallett and fiance Mason King, of Worthing.

Phil, 70, a retired journalist from Burgess Hill, said: “If little Myles turns out to be as good a sportsman as Tommy, he will have done very well.

“Tommy was the greatest dual sportsman to come out of Sussex.”

Tommy Cook, born in Cuckfield 120 years ago, who died aged 49 in 1950, still holds the goal-scoring record for Albion of 123 in his career with them, and he scored more than 20,000 runs for Sussex.

The book can be bought from Brighton and Hove Albion and the Sussex Cricket Museum.

Some of the proceeds will be given to the mental health charity Mind.

Tommy Cook suffered from severe depression later in life, and died from an overdose in January 1950.
